5 Wedding Tips

I'm not quite ready to share about our ridiculous rehearsal dinner and I'm still waiting on wedding pictures.... so today, for Wedding Wednesday... you get.. my five biggest tips I learned from my wedding.

1. Let someone handle the minor details!
So, you miscounted your own wedding party and are technically two people short at the tables. Your sisters will just sit at the family tables and problem is solved. So, someone forgot to put Koal's thing around her neck... she was still just as cute running down the aisle. So, the florist doesn't think you should put baby's breath in the hurricanes because they won't have water.

You will have enough going on in your head. You'll probably have some minor detail "catastrophe" that can be handled a lot more smoothly by someone else. Let them.

2. The make-up artist is worth it.
This was something I went back and forth on months before the wedding. Do I let people choose if they want their make-up done? Do I want all of their make-up to look the same? Ultimately, I decided to go with the make-up artist and everyone would get their make-up done. There is just something about getting your make-up professionally done. You feel pretty, you look "different", and people notice! My bridesmaids are all super beautiful and the professional make-up just added to their beauty!! I am really happy I did it!
Post trial run.... pre bridal pictures. All the goodness of professional make-up and Braums!

3. Designate someone to bring you drinks throughout the night.
Sounds a little silly... but we did not do this and had two great friends that kind of took over the responsibilities for us! One of my coworker's husbands brought me wine all night. Then, I would set it down to take a picture, walk away, and have no idea where I left it. Then, he'd be there again with another one! When you're the bride and groom, you don't have time to go get drinks. Duck Dude and I have spoken repeatedly about these friends bringing us drinks throughout the night. We're going to a wedding on Friday, and I think we will both make sure the bride and groom are taken care of because it meant a lot to us!

4. Walk slowly down the aisle.
I had a long walk down the aisle and I loved it. My dad and I talked before about how we wanted to just enjoy it. I loved my song I walked down to, and thought it got prettier as it got further into the song. We walked slow and it gave me an opportunity to soak everything in. Everything in life is fast... but this doesn't have to be.

5. Leave for your honeymoon on Monday.
We would have died... literally died.. if we left on Sunday morning. Fine, we would have lived... but we would have gotten to St. Lucia and I would have wanted to sleep. The smartest thing we did was wait until Monday morning to leave. Our flight left at 5 am... we left our house at 3 am.. I cannot even imagine trying to do that the day after our wedding. We got to St. Lucia refreshed and ready to relax!

Those are my expert tips!! :)

  1. These are really great tips! I'll be saving these to keep reading as our wedding gets closer. We are thankfully leaving for our honeymoon two weeks later because I probably literally would have died ;)

Can't wait to read more about your wedding!

  2. Fantastic tips!! We had a makeup artist for all the girls, too, and I am so glad we spent the money on it. The girls loved it and everyone felt so pretty and pampered :) Walk slowly down the aisle is such a good one, too! My dad had to pull me back a couple of times (at least he remembered lol).

    1. I loved it! I talked to my dad (while smiling) the whole way down! "Hey! I made it down the stairs without falling".... "Where am I supposed to hold my bouquet?"..."There are a whole lot of people looking at me!!" ..."Maybe they're looking at you."

  3. I totally agree with all of these tips! Especially leaving for the honeymoon on Monday! On the Sunday after our wedding my husband went to pack his suit case for Mexico and realized not one pair of his shorts from the summer before zipped. So 24 hours after we were married we were at Macy's buying a new summer wardrobe! :)

    1. Haha oh goodness! That sounds like such a boy thing!!!! :) Good thing Macy's had summer clothes out!! That was my biggest problem shopping for the honeymoon.. I was trying to do it in January! So, online shopping it was!

  4. Great ideas! I had a wedding planner, and she designated 1 server the entire evening to wait on my husband and I. So worth it. I tried two different makeup artists, and went with the one my wedding planner recommended. I also did two different hair trials, and went with a friend. I don't regret one minute!

  5. I love these tips. The make up looks stunning on you, and I'm definitely going to have to remind myself walk slowly down the aisle as I'm sure I'll be excited to get to my groom. ;)

  6. I never designated anyone to get us drinks, but I always had something in my hand. Granted, it was usually water because I was so hot after dancing, but it was the though that counted. We had a planner and my sister totally stepped up to make decisions during the day (except when it came to the weather and our hour delay). That was a huge lifesaver to me. She was fabulous the whole weekend!

My walk down the aisle was 4.5 minutes. I took my time (even though we walked faster than planned). We just waited at the end of the aisle before going down because I had it all timed with the music. It's the little things!
