Homey Bedroom

Y'all. I have volleyball camp this week and it's exhausting.  It's like I am so, so close to summer... but here.. spend 7 hours coaching grades 1 through 8. We, literally, have no break. Thank goodness I know highschoolers who will go get us lunch that we can scarf down. All that to say, it might be Friday before I post again.

But today's topic makes my heart so happy.

I am a person who believes the bedroom has to be a homey place. It's just got to. And our bedroom, as awesome as it is, has been missing something. The central focus of the room... the "something above the bed".

Here was my original inspirations. Somewhat of a white frame collage. Maybe with an initial or some type of focul point besides just frames.

Slowly, but surely, each piece started falling in place. It started with a hymn. One of my favorites of all time. One I can hear my D-daddy still singing every time I hear it. A hymn that our grandparents and parents walked into at our wedding. "It is well with my soul" and I love that this is now hanging above our bed... a constant reminder.

Next was a frame I registered for.. that filled that ideal white frame collage. It's beautiful and in it is a picture of us while we are saying our vows. I thought blatant pictures of us above our bed wasn't exactly the look I was going for.. so the fact that this picture had our heads slightly cut off was perfect.

The next frame I knew would be used was the frame that held our "Instagram" sign for the wedding. I love the frame for that reason, but I also love the empty frame. It's like it symbolizes that there is more to come. We haven't filled the frame because we still have so much to accomplish in our marriage.

The next two are both gifts. My aunt from my dad's side is married to a wonderful artist. We received a very special print of one of his paintings. There are only a handful of these prints out there, and I am so happy to have one in our possession.

Then, my aunt from my mom's side gave me an awesome present of a free canvas picture. It was an awesome gift and Duck Dude and I picked out the picture together. Once again, we like that the picture didn't scream "look at us!!".. our venue was beautiful and black and white pictures are my favorite. Originally this picture was a little wider, but when I put it into the canvas company.. it cropped it to my parents are in it, and Duck Dude's parents are in it... it's such a beautiful memory of our day.

At this point, I thought the canvas would stand alone in the middle. Once I put it together, I realized it needed one more little thing. It took me about 2.3 seconds to know I wanted an arrow. My husband and I have an incredible future and I am so excited to constantly be moving forward with him.

And it all came together like this.

And now our bedroom is homey.

  1. The idea of an empty frame is adorable, I may have to do that as well! I can't wait to eventually buy a new house so we no longer have a window behind our bed!

  4. I LOVE the way this came out!! The wedding photo is so perfect! We chose more architectural and nature-y photos to blow up from our engagement session and wedding, and we just love that it portrays our special day, but there's not a 3 foot photo of us in the house ;)

    1. :) At least make sure you know when it expires.. because mine did and I got it about 5 days before the expiration date! But it really turned out to be the greatest gift! I would definitely give it as a gift!!
